Treatment
Treatment
Mise-En-Scene
Locations:
* Photography Studio At LSC (Dark, Low Key Lighting)
* Queen Victoria Park (Night Time)
* Brick Lane (Daytime)
* Bedroom
* SouthBank
We have a few other locations, that we are looking to study further, but for now, these locations above will be set locations that we will hopefully start our shooting from.
Clothing:
For the studio shoot, we are looking at an all-black clothing requirement. This will allow us to represent a sort of isolated dark environment, as we may use a black backdrop. Apart from this, we will look to use a variety style of clothes. We may also add in a type of sports outfit, which would state a true stereotypical insight of a male trying to make an impression for the female.
Lighting:
We will also use a range of lighting from natural light (Day and Night), to artificial light, such as Low Key Lighting and High Key Lighting
Casting:
* Rashaan - Main Actor (Shadowing Chris Brown)
* Joyce - Chris Browns ex girfriend
* Bianca - Main Actress (Shadowing Brandy)
* Tyrell - Main Cameraman / Brandys ex boyfriend
* Danyaal - Director and Cameraman 2
* Relative amount of Background people 5-10 Maximum
Camera:
- Medium close up
- - panning
- - over the shoulder shot
- - high angle
Inspiring Music Video:
* Olly Murs feat. Demi Lovato - Up
* Drake feat. Rihanna - Take Care
* Nicki Minaj feat. Chris Brown - Right By My Side
The inspirations came from these videos, as the studio shots stood out the most. They symbolised isolation within both singers and their current situation. A personal inspiration from one of my case studies is Trey Songz -Can’t Help but Wait. The feature of the flashback of a montage is really smart, as it can link with the theme of the song ‘Do Better’. Here, we would use the flashback of montage to let the audience understand how things were before both (Chris Brown and Brandy) wish that they done better in the relationship that they were in pursuit of.
Themes included: Love, Isolation and Regret. The Length of the music video is 3:48 but we will extend it to 4:15, as we want to include an introduction to show different locations and also, we want to show a few credits at the end of the music video.
Audience:
* Teenagers/Young Adults, 16-24
We will predominately be aiming the music video at the Black ethnic group, as the actors in the video will be black. However our secondary audience will hopefully be of a White and Hispanic ethnic group. Looking at the NRS Social Grade, our audience will fit under the Grades C1C2D
We will look to broadcast our music video on social media sites, such as YouTube, Twitter and MTV. This is mainly because of our audience, as they are 16-24 and the use of social media is high within this age range. Twitter will allows us to show snippets of the music video, whereas YouTube and MTV will be placed on the platforms of TV and Internet
Music video song
Song: Do Better - Chris Brown (feat. Brandy)
Why?
We chose this song as we thought we could incorporate a good narrative and add a bit of performance into the video too. Our case studies were of similar genre of the song so there weren't anyway surprises with the song choice. Personally I'm a fan of this track and i think the concept is very interesting, therefore if we do it right we will produce a excellent music video overall.
Synopsis:
The song offers a glimpse into the mind states of two heart-broken ex-lovers, coming to terms with the dissolution of their relationship. While they aren’t singing directly to each other, the lyrics come self-evaluating point of view, as both parties seem to immensely regret their actions during the relationship. - Genius.com
Lyrics:
[Chris Brown:]
I don't know why I even try
'Cause you don't want this no more
I would rather leave before I hurt you
And I would have died long ago if I didn't have my faith
I see you're starting to hate me
I see it in your face
My home don't feel like home
Just like my heart, it's empty
You changed the number on your phone
So when I call, you ain't gotta listen
And all your girls think that I ain't shit
And they the same ones lost in the club
Them bitches is basic
Now I'm number one that's lost in love
I can't take it
I'm on my knees
You're gonna see a grown man cry
I won't lie
I'm starting to hate me
A little more and more each day
I don't know me
It's like I can't get out of my own way
And you don't love me, you don't love me
If I knew better, I would do better
[Brandy:]
Looking at the names on your list and I can't find me
I'm deep underwater, are you gon' let me drown?
I see you're happy now
You're the life of the party, acting out
Ain't seen you in months, you ain't call me once
And all your boys say that I ain't shit
And they the same ones lost in the club
Them niggas is basic
And I'm the one who lost in love
And I can't take it
I'm on my knees
Don't you hate to see me cry?
I won't lie
I'm starting to hate me
A little more and more each day
I don't know me
It's like I can't get out of my own way
And you don't love me, you don't love me
If I knew better, I would do better
[Chris Brown & Brandy:]
Thinking 'bout you and I, thinking 'bout you and I
My heart's beating in slow motion knowing that it's over
Thoughts got me thinking 'bout suicide
Baby, this is do or die
When you told me it's over
Ain't no point in being sober
All I wanna do is fade away
I hope that God for forgive me
'Cause I know you ain't gon' miss me
Baby girl, I won't try to say my goodbyes
You ain't gotta shed a tear for me
Baby girl, don't cry
I'm starting to hate me
A little more and more each day
I don't know me
It's like I can't get out of my own way
And you don't love me, you don't love me
If I knew better, I would do better (I would do better, I would do better)
I would do better (x7)

Lesson 15th September 2015
In today's lesson we was picking a song out of a set that we chose last lesson. After going through a couple we finally decided as a group that we would be doing the song 'Do Better' by Chris Brown and Brandy. It is a fairly new and simple song, although it requires a female to play the role of brandy. we also decided that I would be the main actor, Tyrell is the main cameraman, although Danyaal will help with camera too, he will be the main director. In tomorrows lesson we will develop some further ideas on the song that we have chosen and gather different ways of addressing the music video.

Lesson 14th September 2015
Creative Ideas
I got into a group with Tyrell and Danyaal as recommended by my teacher as she thinks they're both reliable. We all have similar ideas and decided on some song option. Even though Tyrell was not here we still managed to gather up loads of ideas for our music video and put our separate thoughts together.

Editing
This lesson our group went up to the editing suite and started to edit on the mac. It took us a while to get used to the software (final cut pro), as we haven't used it since before we left for our summer holidays. As we finally got back into the swing of things, our video seem to come together pretty quickly. I was the main editor as I was the one that knew most about the software but we did all take part. We were the last group to finish editing because we had to deal with some missing footage therefore had a to carry on as we didn't want to drag on our lesson. In the end we finally got a decent finished product.

Today we started filming our practice music videos. We followed our plan and started filiming outside and in the photo studio. With Corine being our actress, me and Aamna were the ones on the camera. it took us a while but we finally managed to get some footage for at least the first verse and the chorus of the song.
